Spring Farmhouse Living Room

Spring has been around for a while and we are edging toward summer feels with each passing day, so we wanted to put together a new look in our living room. Something with a nod toward summer while still keeping all the spring touches in place. For this look, we went with a really simple fireplace look and lots of flowers around the room.

For the mantel, we kept it really simple with a framed picture in the center, an antique cocoa urn filled with cotton and a cute chicken figurine. On the other side, we repurposed some garden decor and a crystal cross. We place the smaller garden decor piece on a white crock and wrapped a bit of greenery around it. Along the front of the mantel, we hung a simple egg garland [Find the tutorial here] and an adorable welcome to our nest sign in the center of the mantel.

We dress set our smaller galvanized chicken feeder with small nests, little plants, and a rooster figurine. We wanted to keep the decor really low so that it doesn't block people sitting on the couches view. I love how it pulls some of the colors of the table up into the decor on top.

On the side table, we placed our purple garden globe and a vase of fresh lilacs and an antique candy bowl to brighten up the table.

Spring Farmhouse Porch

My favorite thing about spring? The flowers! I love incorporating live plants in our decor, it's a unique challenge of layering colors textures, nature and faux to make something beautiful. We had a great time redecorating our porch for spring, and got to put all the plants we've been picking up on clearance at Kroger to good use!

Around the door, we hung a grapevine garland with a flower garland woven around it to add a pop of color to our dark door. We also used an adorable heart hanging basket filled with tulips instead of a traditional wreath. I love the sweet spring feeling it gives this whole area.

To one side of the door, we placed our Victorian Trading Company wagon with crocks and galvanized bucket filled with beautiful flowers. It reminds of a sweet outdoor flower market Mr. Cottage took a picture of while in Germany. We also filled another galvanized container with hot pink hydrangeas and reindeer moss and placed it in front of the wagon.

On the other side of the porch, we sat this cute chippy bench kitty corner, with some cozy throw pillows and some adorable cottage garden decor. We took a short piece of green leaf garland and loosely wrapped it around the pieces from the garden to make it feel a little more like spring. Next, to it, we sat another galvanized bucket filled with mini roses and a grow sign. It makes this space feel so warm and inviting.

Eclectic Spring Farmhouse Mantel

You guys know how we feel about antiques, and so, of course, they showed up in our spring decor! A lot of our neighbors to the north are still snowed in (sorry guys) and we still are expecting some chilly weather over the next few weeks but the official start of spring is just a few weeks away! So we wanted to put together a look that reminded us of early spring, a little cooler with that hope that sparks when the bulbs start to poke above the ground, and this look was born!

We reused our thrift store mirrors that we had up here for the Christmas mantel we did, moving them to the very edge of the mantel in between the two we hung this gorgeous egg wreath with all those gorgeous colors of spring. You can make your own using our Tutorial or check out our Shop.

When decorating your mantel you want to keep either end balanced with like colors, textures, and sizes. It's ok if they vary a little but don't put something tall on one end and really short on the other.

For our mantel, we used dark metal candle holders to set the tone, from there we layered inward with lighter colors and darker colors mirroring the other side of the mantel. We used a beautiful mock french birdcage on one end to give a pop of lighter color and on the other a gorgeous cream candle holder with a bird painted on it. Both of these finds are from Hobby Lobby several years ago. We followed that with egg wreaths, they aren't identical but add a touch of color to the mantel while still being similar. Next, we stacked several antique books, the covers are in the same color family as the rest of the pieces on the mantel so they fit in nicely. We also added a vintage photo of a dog and lamp in the snow and a tray and beautiful metal creamy metal piece to mimic to colors in the picture on the other side. In the center we placed this vintage clock we picked up a couple years ago and we also placed a few small nests with blown quail eggs in them here and there along the mantel.
