Green Chili

This original recipe is made with a super hot chili that from what I hear only grows in New Mexico.  My friend's mom would make it and it was so spicy I could only wipe my spoon in the juice and then put that on the tortilla.  It was very tasty but so hot I had to run for the OJ.  The family would laugh at me as they would eat it by the bowl. Whew!!!

Well, I didn't know how to get the chili peppers or what they were called so this was my attempt to feed that craving for her green chili and still have taste buds. Ha ha! You can make this as hot as you want just adjust your peppers to taste.

*** Update! I found the original chilies!!! So if you are brave and like more than a little bit of spice you can buy Hatch Green Chilies!

Here you go friends, on the wonderful adventure of my version of Ms. Mellie's Green Chili.

1 Onion Chopped
5 Small cans Ortega Chilies
1 Tablespoon Coconut oil
Garlic Powder
Onion powder
Celtic Sea Salt
3 Pork Chops Diced
Organic Flour
Spring Water
Small Jar diced Jalapenos

Blend jalapenos & chilies in a food processor or blender, add water and blend. Chop the onion finely and saute' in a Tbsp of oil. Season with garlic powder, onion powder, and sea salt. Dice pork, dust with flour and place in pan with coconut oil until brown. Add salt & garlic powder and onion powder to taste. Add to this chilies & jalapenos and 1 bottle of water ( 16.9- oz.). Season again with garlic and onion powder, pepper and salt to taste. Let simmer on low to let the flavors mingle add water if it reduces too much.

Use on top of tacos, for sauce tostadas, on enchiladas. Good on nachos too, or you can just eat it by the bowl like Mr. Joe.  This is for you Ms. Mellie and in memory of Mr. Joe.

This sounds good! I love all things mexican inspired although chilies & jalepenos, I may have to mild this out a bit lol but I look forward to making it!

This sounds awesome! Do you think I could use arrowroot or coconut flour instead to avoid the gluten?

It's so fun how different people feel about the degree of spiciness of food! I was so sensitive to spicy dishes, but I have trained myself to tolerate more "heat" - it's kind of necessary for me, as I fell in love with Mexican food and my partner is Latin American too ;)

I can't tolerate spicy food and I don't eat chili but my husband would probably love this! Worth a try!
