Dear Dad’s – 22 Things You Should Know

Tell her you love her. A lot.

Know that from day one, she'll always be your little princess and you will be her super hero. But you have to put in an effort to keep her close to you.

Let her help you around the house or with your work. It will make her feel special.

Ask her to teach you something that she is good at, and you're not as good at and the act interested as she does so. It will make her feel important.

Talk to her momma with respect, she'll expect the same one day.

Show your sensitive side, she'll see that it doesn't make her look weak.

Encourage her to do new things because you want her to grow and you and God have her back.

Make promises and keep them. The only heart break in her life should be from people who don't know how special she is.

Teach her things that you know well.

Act like you care about her interests no matter how different they are from your own.

If you wouldn't say it to your pastor, don't say it to or in front of your daughter.

When she comes to you with a problem, listen. She'll come back to you instead of going to someone else.

Talk about Godly people in front of her, she'll aspire to be like them.

Work stuff out with her momma in front of her, without yelling- she'll learn that her opinion matters and that this is how a family is supposed to work.

Don't joke about having a shot gun when boys are around, you'll teach her you don't trust her judgement.

Make sure she knows that if the boy breaks her heart, you'll find him because she is your little girl.

If you lead by my example you won't have to chase off the "bad boys". She'll want better.

Stand up against injustice and for the oppressed, the widow and the orphan. You'll show her compassion is not weakness and no matter what anyone else says, doing what's is right is never inferior.

Be the shoulder she can cry on- the person she can turn to.

Complement her and her mother often.

Open the door for her because she is a lady. Make sure she knows that and that it's not because you think she can't.

Always remember you will be her first hero- live in a way that honors that role.

I love this! I especially love all the reminders to show her what kind of husband a father would want for his daughter by his own actions. My dad has always treated my mom and the rest of my family so well that I would look for the same in a future husband. It will not only make a difference for the daughter, but it'll teach the son how to take care of his own family, too. I guess my dad treats his family like his dad treated his. :)

I'm 29 and even now my Dad's hugs make me feel like I can take on the world - they might not fix the issue but they sure make me feel like all is well with the world.

I love this! Dads sometimes don't realize how they shape their daughter's life and choices.

I love all these! But especially the ones in regard to the father's relationship with the mother, I think that's so important in having a healthy family relationship in general, and so important for daughters as they're growing up to see how they should be treated and how they should be loved and how relationship should be. It's so important for their feelings of self-worth and self-esteem!

in a way, almost like the male version of Proverbs 31 - all the things that a father is supposed to be towards his daughter - and his wife :D

These are so great! I think it is especially important for men to treat moms with respect. I truly feel that our girls will looks for men like their fathers. If our daughters don't see from their fathers how they should be treated (by the way he treats their mom) how can we expect them to make good choices in significant others?
Dads have such an impact on their little girls!!!

So beautiful. I love the one about dad showing his sensitive side. I see a sensitive side in my husband and the way he shows affection to our sweet almost-10-month-old is so heart warming. Your thoughts are spot on. Great reminders for our loving dad's!
