At the Cottage we love to grow our own food as much as possible and one thing we grow is heirloom green beans.

This variety is called Cherokee Trail of Tears and they are such a beautiful bean and very tasty.
Since we grow our beans we do a lot of canning. This is what we do to prepare our pre-canned beans.You can do the same with freezer beans from the market, just make sure to simmer them well.

Ingredients:
2 quarts of heirloom green beans
2 slices of uncured bacon
Himalayan Pink Salt (to taste)
Pepper (to taste)
1 tsp. of raw sugar
Spring water (if using frozen beans)
Directions:
Season and add sugar and bacon. Simmer the beans tasting periodically to make sure seasonings are to your liking. Serve when tender. Enjoy!

I've just started eating green beans and love them. I don't know why I didn't before haha. This recipe sounds like the perfect combo of healthy and comfort.

DeleteI love Green Beans, this past spring I planted Purple Green Beans. And this year I've bought a variety pack forgot the name.. Never heard of adding sugar though going to try it next batch. Happy Weekend with Love

DeleteYum .. we make them somewhat similiar .. and then we Fry them .. Yep grab your cast iron skillet put in some chopped sweet onion, cut some bacon into small pieces and cook till limp .. then add you green beans .. Pepper and Garlic Powder or Garlic Salt we stay away from the salt .. but either would work and cook till browned or even slightly blackened my favorite .. they are absolutely delicious !
